There are a million yarns and a million patterns out on the town in search of a good time or a long-lasting relationship. Armed with your needles and an itch for yarn grandbabies you can love, you troll the market looking for a happy match.

First date--disaster or love sparks?

First dates can be so tough, many people wish for a way around dates and hope for an instant relationship. These people don't swatch. They don't introduce their yarn to their pattern via their needles, thus don't know how well the couple get along until sparks fly--not the good kind.

Bickering, estrangement, divorce. Oh my!

You can hear them bicker when you can't get gauge. If you still have stars in your eyes and believe the yarn and pattern will grow on each other as you knit, you can get hauled into their wrangles when the fabric misbehaves. It'll block out, you say.

When do you discover your yarn and pattern revile each other?

Halfway up the back of your sweater? When the pieces don't fit when you seam them? Or worse, when you put on your finished sweater and it sags, puckers, feels like a hair shirt, or the neckline lays crooked? Or if you fell in love with a pattern that wants a certain sweet and demure kind of yarn, don't bring on some brassy, iron-willed type who won't agree with his ideas, won't appreciate your patterns strengths.
