Going to a renaissance event is not easy if you don't know what you're going to wear. Much more if you don't have an idea about what costume looks best on you! After all, the highlight of a medieval faire is the day that people in various clad come together to have fun and show off their wonderful costumes.

If you're choosing between going for renaissance clothing for sale or creating your own patterns, I highly suggest that you go for the former and buy renaissance clothes straight from the rack. This has been my choice ever since I started attending renaissance fairs a few years ago.

For starters, the reason why I pick-up a dress or two is the lack of time on my part to even sew anything together. Sure, some of you might say that buying is a waste of time but believe me, if you have a family of your own and you plan to sew a costume for each family member, then you might be taking more time than it is actually needed. Added to the fact that costumes are cheaper nowadays than they were before.

There's also the reason that not all of us are tailors and seamstresses. Having to sew one's design would mean to look for designs, purchase the required materials, only to find out that they it was a time-saver, effort-saver (had there been a word) and a money-saver to just buy one directly. It was also a pain to see all the extra fabric and thread lying all-over the floor; which would all be put to waste since I had no more intention, after all that sewing, to pursue more!

The sewing also took me away from extra quality time I could have spent with my family or doing some leisurely activities.

In the end, I figured that my efforts to save up a few dollars, with the cost of materials in mind, the time I spent putting everything together, was more troublesome than just browsing through online retail stores and ordering a renaissance costume directly off the rack!
